South Australians in the market for a new electric vehicle are being encouraged to ‘get in quick’ and take advantage of the South Australian Government’s $3,000 subsidy, with applications now open via the Department for Treasury and Finance website.
The incentive – part of the Government’s sweeping reforms to help drive the take-up of zero and low emission vehicles – will be available for 7,000 eligible new battery electric and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles registered in South Australia from 28 October 2021 (when the new Motor Vehicles (Electric Vehicle Levy) Amendment Bill 2021 passed State Parliament).
That means local motorists who may have ordered a new eligible battery electric vehicle prior to that date but are still waiting for delivery – and therefore, haven’t registered the vehicle yet – will still be able to apply for the subsidy.
