Business Plans – the “policy document”

Business Plans – the “policy document”

Business Advisory Services Update

Business plans are like maps for tourists – if you don’t know where you’re going, how are you going to know when you get there?

Unfortunately, not enough SMEs are taking time out each year to sit down and think about their business. This is best done as a “quality time session” – with phones turned off and no appointment scheduled for the next 2 hours.

This is quality time to think about a business…Where is the business currently at? Where would the team like it to go?

What changes need to be made?

Are the current team capable of driving the changes that are necessary?

What is happening in the market? Are new products or services emerging?

Does the business require more funding? How will this funding be structured?

Is the business located in the right position?

What additional training do the team members need? Do you need to recruit people with a different set of skills?

These are some of the very important questions that need to be asked and answered if the business is going to survive and grow.

Businesses need new fresh ideas, energy and enthusiasm to get all of the right ingredients working together, to grow as a dynamic, interesting business that people want to work for and people want to deal with.

Formulating a business plan requires “a think tank meeting”, where an issue is considered and debated. What changes can be made now that will make the business better for the staff and for customers?
