Accountant's Minute 258
In the past, many accountants were not called upon to be able to display outstanding communication skills, but in the era that we are now in accountants, who wish to broaden their work activities to include Business Advisory Services, need to have cultivated strong written communication skills; have the ability to be able to think critically and translate accounting data and reports into compelling documents that are able to be easily understood by the targeted recipients, whether they are business owners, leadership team members, shareholders, team members or government organisations.

“New Year New Business! Or is it?”
This was the theme of the discussion held by Peter Towers, Managing Director, ESS BIZTOOLS with Jordan Lowry, Managing Director, Blackstone Business Group in our most recent Business Advisory Services Update Webinar held on 3rd February 2021.
In the presentation Jordan Lowry, who is an expert in advising businesses on Workplace Health and Safety, Fair Work Australia issues, employee hire and motivation made the following points:
- Based on what happened in 2020, it is very obvious that every business needs a plan and a backup plan for all aspects of their business, including Workplace Health and Safety, Fair Work Australia Requirements, Employee Issues.
- Preparation is very important.
- Businesses must have systems in place.
- If we have learned anything from 2020 it is that businesses and accountants must be prepared.
- Accountants played a great role in supporting clients through advisory services and participation in advisory boards through 2020 and many accountants proactively referred business clients to advisors such as Blackstone Business Group.
- Businesses must be proactive and not reactive, meaning that effective Human Resources systems and Workplace Health and Safety systems do not remain for years on the “must do list” but are activated.
- Accountants can assist by identifying the gaps that exist in a client’s systems, primarily as they relate to Workplace Health and Safety and Fair Work Australia issues.
- Accountants can be the “canary in the mine” to alert clients of any potential issues that might come back to affect them, not only through embarrassment, significant fines but even jail.
- Blackstone Business Group wants to proactively work with business clients in a win-win situation for accountants.
- Blackstone Business Group supply a range of manuals and policy documents to assist businesses to introduce appropriate systems for Workplace Health and Safety, Fair Work Australia and other employee issues.
- Blackstone Business Group is happy to “partner with accountants” to help clients with “black and white” advice on any Workplace Health and Safety, Fair Work Australia, employee issues.
- Blackstone offers services to accountants on a complimentary basis so that accountancy team members are aware of the type of support that Blackstone can offer to your clients.
