Marketing Success And An Awareness Of Legal Issues For Accountancy Businesses

Accountant's Minute 240

The situation in Victoria is a warning to the rest of Australia!

The unfortunate situation in Victoria, relating to the significant increase in cases of COVID-19, has highlighted the ongoing problems for business operators and accountants to be diligent about all aspects of business operations so as to reduce the possibility of severe COVID-19 restrictions being reapplied, which will undoubtedly have a significant effect on business operations.

All of this highlights the necessity for accountants and business operators to be aware of the ongoing desirability of continuing the implementation of marketing strategies and also having an awareness of key issues relating to legal matters, as they affect professional accounting firms and small businesses and medium-sized enterprises.

In this week’s “COVID-19 Survival Panel” webinar we have two presentations to be made by Trent Butler, Trent Butler Consulting Pty Ltd and Matthew Karakoulakis, Partner, AMK Law.

Trent Butler is a Chartered Accountant who has specialised in marketing activities for professional accounting firms, in particular, the utilisation of social media to promote the uniqueness of individual accounting firms to potential clients.  Trent’s presentation “7 Steps to Marketing Success for a Professional Service Business in a COVID-19 Environment” will familiarise accountants with proven strategies of how to utilise social media to clearly identify to potential clients the uniqueness of your firm and supply details of the particular services that your firm is able to offer.

Matthew Karakoulakis is an experienced Lawyer who will comment on “Effective Dispute Resolution Mechanisms in Australia” with particular reference to:

  • litigation as a last resort and the processes involved;
  • key steps to be taken before going to court, for example mediation and effective negotiations strategy; and
  • impacts on dispute resolution brought into the current pandemic environment given the online technology available, together with some of the advantages in going online for dispute resolution purposes.

In last week’s webinar, Matt Vitale, Joint Founder and Managing Director of Birchal (a Crowd Sourced Funding Intermediary) gave a very interesting overview of the Crowd Sourced Funding Equity Raising journey in Australia and highlighted that, with the marketplace expectation that raising finance by small businesses and medium-sized enterprises will be very difficult following the phasing out of the JobKeeper Program scheduled for 30 September 2020, there was a strong expectation within the Crowd Sourced Funding Intermediaries that a large number of small businesses and medium-sized enterprises would be seeking to utilise the Crowd Sourced Funding process to raise capital for their businesses throughout 2020/21.

Amanda Gascoigne, Amanda Gascoigne Consulting, utilised her experience, as a professional Accountant and Consultant to small practices and sole practitioners all over Australia, to discuss the importance of professional Accountants ensuring that they are billing appropriate amounts for the amount of effort they are making to assist their clients with their ongoing business problems, in particular, the “COVID-19 Survival Crisis” at present.

Amanda indicated that this crisis was not going to disappear soon and that accountants would be well advised to be proactively talking to clients about the development of appropriate strategies to assist them to survive the challenges that most of them will encounter during 2020/21.
