Attracting and keeping the right people is one of the four essential components of the “Life cycle of a business”! (Verne Harnish – “Scaling up”)

Most small business owners and management of medium sized enterprises need assistance in implementing strategies to employ great team members who can be developed as the leaders within the business.

Does your client have the “right people doing the right things” inside their businesses?

Assisting clients in every aspect of team member recruitment, training and leadership development is a value adding process that proactive accountants wanting to “add value” to clients can contribute.

This is all part of helping your client to run a better business.  Most small businesses and medium sized enterprises will not have a designated Human Resources Manager – this is an opportunity for your firm to be able to supply many of these services.

Where do you start in adding value to “People” in your client’s organisations?

  • Identification of teams
  • What skills are needed?
  • What licenses/permits do individual team members require?
  • You could assist in the drafting of the employment advertisement
  • For some positions a member of the accounting team could be on the interview panel
  • Ensure that any skills/licenses/permits that the applicant has are recorded
  • Assist in the selection of the new team member
  • Assist in the preparation of the employment offer, job description and Employment Agreement
  • Assist in monitoring the induction process
  • Appointment of a “buddy”
  • Orientation of the new team member
  • Team introduction
  • Paperwork to be completed relative to taxation, superannuation, next of kin
  • Discussion on workplace health and safety requirements within the business
  • Explanation of internal processes
  • Explanation of team meetings
  • daily huddle/toolbox meetings
  • weekly review
  • management meetings
  • Ensure that details of skills/licenses/permits held by the new team member are entered into the business’s register of skills
  • Identification of further training required for the new team member

Contributing “People Input” will assist your client to run a better business and add value.  This is another key role that your accountancy business could contribute to improving the business performance of your client’s business.
