he first thing to consider is - are you under staffed or over staffed? Are you losing potential sales because you're under staffed at busy times, or have you got too many staff? Customers get impatient and frustrated when they have trouble getting served at a store. Even though they might make a purchase from you this time, they may not come back a second time because they were not satisfied with the promptness of service. Under staffing can also mean that ad-on sales are not being attempted by the staff as they are too busy dealing with the queue of customers at their counters. This causes good staff to become frustrated as they cannot meet their individual sales targets. Good sales staff eventually leave an organisation that is under staffed and is not willing to do something about it. At the same time over staffing leads to boredom and idle chatter. This is far from the best economic use of a scarce resource of a business - "human resources".

This paper analyses, in four pages, human resources development under the headings:

  • Are You Under Staffed Or Over Staffed?
  • Permanent Staff
  • Remuneration Plan
  • Part Time Staff
  • Do You Listen To Your Staff?
  • Staff Attitudes Are The Key To Success
  • Coach And Facilitator
  • Management Of People Vital
  • Development Of A Good Team
