SYSTEMISATION IS BEING URGED ON ACCOUNTANTS AGAIN THIS WEEK

Amanda Gascoigne, Principal, Amanda Gascoigne Consulting, made this comment in the ESS BIZTOOLS’ Business Advisory Services Podcast last week - “I can assure you that if you’ve got the systems, you will get that extra work, but you have to make a proactive decision to be reactive and respond to the type of services that your clients want you to provide to them”.

Amanda’s comments were made after Mark Holton, Director, Smithink Pty Ltd, had indicated, “Every accounting firm that I’ve spoken to over the last 25 years has told me that they do Advisory Services, but in most circumstances, it is done in a ‘non-systemised’ manner”.

These comments followed Andrew Geddes, an Australian Accounting Legend and Chair of Greencross Ltd a Top 200 ASX company for 10 years, discussing the systemisation of the training of accountants within professional firms in a discussion on the utilisation of “Scaling Up Strategies for Teambuilding”. “You’ve got to start now – this afternoon – because your greatest challenge, at the moment, is getting good people to work with!”

In the ESS BIZTOOLS’ Business Advisory Services Podcast last week, Amanda Gascoigne joined Peter Towers, Managing Director, ESS BIZTOOLS in an overview of the challenges confronting small and solo practitioner accounting firms relating to the delivery of Business Advisory Services.

“I don’t think that practice owners are spending enough time with their clients to really dig down and see how much more they can help their clients to add value”.
“Having some sort of framework is actually a great opportunity and something that accountants can use to actually start talking with their clients about a variety of matters”.
“One of the things that I loved doing as an accountant was client meetings”.
“One of the reasons why accountants are not doing these meetings as much could be time pressures that’s actually stopping them because they know they are under the pump because there are so many deadlines. But this is actually a really critical part of the nurturing and strengthening and ensuring that long-term relationship and I know for me that was something very important in my practice”.
