Implementing Systemisation - Session 3 Newsletter Leverage Communication with a Firm’s Clients
Accountant's Minute 301
In session 3 of the Black Friday webinar extravaganza Amanda Gascoigne, Amanda Gascoigne Consulting joined Peter Towers, Managing Director, ESS BIZTOOLS for a discussion on 5 Key Product Packages that are part of the ESS BIZTOOLS’ Business Advisory Services offering for Accountants, Business Advisors, Chief Financial Officers and Bookkeepers.
The Business Plus+ newsletter has been produced for ESS BIZTOOLS’ subscribers for over ten years with thirteen editions been produced annually. Subscribers badge the newsletter with their name and contact details and are able to send the newsletter to clients, prospects and other people that the accounting firm wants to keep in contact with.
“Business Plus+ is a marketing tool for Accountants and a mentoring resource for clients of our subscribers”. Peter Towers.
“Some people think that newsletters are a “bit old school” but I think they are definitely relevant in today’s environment. When I was running my accountancy practice I produced a newsletter each month and I think that was a great way for me to leverage communication about a relevant item to a lot of clients without having to talk to them individually – today’s Accountants are time poor therefore the use of newsletters is very relevant”. Amanda Gascoigne.
Key Performance Indicators are calculations prepared within a business that many Accountants do not encounter when they are concentrating on the preparation of annual Financial Accounts and Income Tax Returns but this information is vital to the leadership team within the business to understand how the businesses is actually performing.
ESS BIZTOOLS has developed “Business Health Checks” for a number of industries to facilitate the ongoing analysis and comparison of performance in a wide number of “internal business operations that have nothing to do with taxation” that Accountants who are offering Business Advisory Services should have an awareness of and could utilise their skills to ensure that these comparison reports are been prepared daily (in some cases, if the leadership team requires them) weekly or monthly in a manner that enables continual review to determine any abnormalities in the business’ performance.
A good “value add” is to suggest to a client that there should be a Monthly Business Review Meeting to consider the Business Health Checks and the monthly financial accounts and to review other key data relative to the business’ activities.
It is a good idea for Accountants to have systems for all of these non-compliance services so that the approach is undertaken in a consistent manner each time a particular assignment is performed. Having a system for advising clients on “ Buying a Business” is very beneficial because it ensures that the Accountant has raised the numerous questions and other matters that relate to a buying a business decision.
The ESS BIZTOOLS’ “Buying a Business Product Package” explores a wide range of matters to ensure that the client who is proposing to buy a business receives information on all aspects of the business together with details of what is included in the transaction and more importantly what is excluded so that the client can be making their decision as to whether to purchase a business based on a wide range of well-prepared accurate information.
The “Crowd Sourced Funding Equity Raising Legislation” has certainly given SME operators a wider range of financing options for their business operations. Small companies now have the opportunity of being able to raise up to $5M in twelve months by the issue of shares to the public.
There is no requirement to offer security, issue personal guarantees by the directors or make monthly repayments of principal and interest.
A recent report by the joint founder of Equitise, one of the leading Crowd Sourced Funding Intermediaries appointed by Australian Securities and Investments Commission, identified that Intermediaries were only inviting 5% of the companies that made contact with them to proceed with a Crowd Sourced Funding Equity Raising. This is a significant cost to Australian small/medium size businesses and is an indication of a significant market opportunity for Accountants to ensure that small/medium sized companies that wish to raise capital have been appropriately advised and that the documentation that the Intermediaries require in their role as the “Gatekeeper” for ASIC such as Business Plan, Budgets and Cash Flow Forecasts, Projected Balance Sheet, Marketing Plan and other documentation has been prepared to a standard which will meet the Crowd Sourced Funding Intermediary’s expectations.
ESS BIZTOOLS has prepared a complete product package relative to the Crowd Sourced Funding Equity Raising Journey to assist Accountants to be able to offer this service to the thousands of companies that are expected to start this journey over the next few years.
It is a national disgrace that Australia has either the longest or one of the longest debtors days outstanding figures in the world. ESS BIZTOOLS has developed the “SME Debtors Systems Manual” to assist Accountants to conduct a full review of a client’s Debtors Management practices to ensure that an appropriate “Debtors Management System” is introduced so that there is appropriate management supervision available for this very important area within a business.
There are always “Difficult Times” somewhere in Australia. This was the reason that ESS BIZTOOLS produced the “Survival in Difficult Times Product Package” to assist businesses that are affected by natural disasters such as floods, bushfires, cyclones, droughts and localised business problems that seem to occur every year.
The product package includes 42 questionnaires which enable the Accountant to analyse with their client many aspects of the business ranging from cash control to debtors to staff and all other components of the business.
The product package includes commentary that supplements each of these questionnaires to enable the accounting subscriber to have articles relating to those discussion points that can be handed to the client to assist in the rectification of problems that may have been identified by the questions contained within the questionnaires.
